Cervical cancer is the 5th commonest cancer amongst women in Hong Kong. All women aged between 25 and 64 who have ever had sex should have regular cervical smear, whether you have menopause or have not had sex for years. The test should be done annually for the first two years, and then once every 3 years until the age of 64. For women over 64 and have never had a cervical smear, you should have at least one test. For women who have never had sex or had total hysterectomy done, no cervical smear is required.

Fee for the Cervical Screening Service in the Maternal & Child Health Centres is $100*.
The fee covers the cervical test and all follow-up services in Maternal & Child Health Centres (repeat test, follow-up investigation and referral to specialist service)

You can either choose your preferred session and date of examination, or let the computer pick up the earliest available appointment for you. Appointment system can greatly reduce waiting time. Working women will not waste their vacations by finding out no quota is left on arrival to our centres.

Please browse the Cervical Screening Programme Website http://www.cervicalscreening.gov.hk for more information.

Preparations before booking :
1. Please have your Hong Kong Identity Card / valid travel document and telephone number ready at hand.
2. Try to recall the date of your last menstrual period. Cervical smear test should be avoided from menstruation. Thus, please make your appointment out of the menstruation date. You may estimate the date as follow: e.g. if your last menstrual period was from the 1st to 5th of January, your next menstruation will probably be on the date between end of January to early February. You should therefore avoid making the appointment within the period of 27th of January to the 5th of February. You could choose a date between the 6th to 26th of January, or between the 7th to 25th of February as far as possible.
3. Women aged at or above 40 are advised to make an appointment after the 12th day of the menses.

Other points to note :
1. Your booking is valid only after confirmation by the computer.
2. If you want to change or cancel the appointment, please phone the 24-hour booking hotline 3166 6631 again 2 days before the appointment date.
3. If the service is suspended due to situations such as typhoon or black rainstorms, you have to book another appointment.
4. On the appointment day, please bring along your Hong Kong Identity Card / travel document and the fee to register at the counter. Those who are late for over 15 minutes would not be served.
5. Cervical screening test does not include routine gynaecological examination. Please seek medical advice from General Outpatient Clinics or private doctors if you have abnormal vaginal discharge or menstrual disturbance.
