Do I need to let my breastfed baby drink water?

Breastmilk contains more than 80% of water. As long as the baby has enough breastmilk, he will get enough water. Therefore, exclusively breastfed baby does not need extra water intake in the first six months, not even in the summertime. Giving your baby water will reduce his intake of breastmilk, and hence reduce your milk production. This will also weaken the protection of your baby's intestine and increase risk of infection.
