Checklist of preparing for your newborn

Baby's Clothing
  • Clothes and underwear made of 100% cotton (having several clothes ready for changing)
  • Woollen underwear (for winter)
  • Thick gown (for outdoor wearing in winter)
  • Socks
  • Baby hats
  • Baby blanket
  • Cloth diapers or disposable diapers
  • Bibs / baby handkerchiefs
  • Gloves (if necessary)
  • Clothes made of 100% cotton can prevent skin allergy.
  • Woollen underwear is better worn between cotton clothes.
  • Clothes in simple style with loose collars and sleeves are preferable.

Bathing items
  • Baby bath tub
  • Large towels
  • Small towels / baby handkerchief
  • Fragrance free baby body wash
  • Thermometer (if necessary)
  • Comb
  • Cotton wool (for cleaning buttock)
  • Lubricants (for applying over the buttock )
  • Test the water temperature with your elbow or thermometer first.
  • Do not use baby powder.

Baby care items
  • Gauze / baby handkerchief (for oral care)
  • Cotton wool ball (for eyes cleansing)
  • Cool boiled water (for cleaning eyes / mouth)
  • A small plastic container (for holding cool boiled water)
  • Baby nail clipper or scissors
  • Emery board
  • Mat for changing diapers
  • Baby laundry detergent
  • Fragrance free baby lotion
  • Choose 100% cotton made garments.

Cord care items
  • Cool boiled water*
  • Cotton wool applicator
  • Cotton wool ball
  • A small plastic container (for holding cool boiled water)
  • *Follow advice from the hospital of baby's birth of using either cool boiled water or alcohol.

Baby Crib
  • Baby cot with firm mattress
  • cot sheet
  • Water-proof mattress
  • Comforter
  • Baby sleeping bag / suit
  • Choose 100% cotton made garments.
  • Choose a crib that meets safety standard
    • The distance between the bars should be less than 6 cm
    • The mattress should fit snugly within the crib
    • The height of the cot rails should be more than 3/4 of your baby's height
    • The crib should be finished with unleaded paint
    • The boards should be solid and smooth with no cutouts

Attention: Babies do not need pillows. Do not place fluffy comforters, heavy blankets, stuffed toys in the crib with an infant. These can lead to suffocation. Never leave your baby unattended in the crib with the cot rail lowered. Make sure the cot rail is locked and cannot be accidentally released before you leave.

Feeding equipment

Breastfeeding

  • Nursing scarf
  • Breast pump (if needed)
  • Breastmilk bags / bottles (if mothers cannot direct breastfeed)
  • Cooler bags with ice packs (for storage and transportation of expressed breastmilk)

Formula milk

  • Formula milk powder
  • Thermal flask (For outing purpose)
  • Milk powder dispenser (For outing purpose)

Equipment needed for bottle feeding

  • Feeding bottles (large and small) with teats and caps
  • Sterilising equipment such as electric steriliser for steam sterilising / large pot for boiling
  • Bottle cleanser
  • Bottle brushes
  • Teat brushes
  • Tongs
  • Cleaned and covered container for storing bottles
  • Electric kettle/ kettle
  • Bottle warmer
  • Bibs / baby handkerchief
